MARTINA
Bangkok
Married/non-dependent spouse
D-2
I am Martina. I currently work in Bangkok D-2, step IV. This is my fourth assignment, and I have been working with the United Nations system for the last 19 years, previously serving in Geneva, Juba and Kampala. My husband also works for the United Nations and is currently posted in New Delhi. Our careers have been successful so far, and we both enjoy what we do. Since we are working in two different locations, we frequently travel back and forth, while also taking time to visit other places. It is nice to have time together other than our home leaves. I must admit, though, that I was worried when I heard the negative comments about the revised compensation package for professional staff, so I was surprised when I found out that my salary will not be reduced. In fact, it will increase by about $390 per month, due to the unified salary scale as well as the new unified hardship allowance and the mobility incentive. The changes will be helpful in allowing my husband and I to keep doing what we love while continuing to see each other as often as possible.
